A recent study published by the American Podiatric Medical Association found that 77% of Americans who are 19 years or older have experienced foot pain, but only a third of those say they would see a podiatrist.  Half of the respondents suffering foot pain say it has impeded upon daily activities, including walking, exercising, and playing with grandchildren.

Among participants who visited a podiatrist, 88% reported a swift diagnosis and 76% said that they were given effective treatment that helped eliminate the problem.  Over a third of the participants who sought out podiatric help said their podiatrist alerted them of other medical concerns, such as circulatory issues, nerve issues, or diabetes.

If you are experiencing foot or ankle pain, don’t join the stubborn majority refusing to get help.  Seek the attention of a podiatrist like Dr. Greg Khaimov, DPM of Foot and Ankle Center of Fort Lee, LLC. Dr. Khaimov will provide quality care to keep you pain free and on your feet.

What is a Podiatrist?

Someone would seek care of a podiatrist when they have suffered a foot injury or have common foot ailments such as: heal spurs, bunions, arch problems, deformities, ingrown toenails, corns, foot and ankle problems etc.

Podiatric Treatment

A podiatrist will treat the problematic areas of the feet, ankle or lower leg by prescribing the following:

  • physical therapy
  • drugs
  • perform surgery on lower extremity fractures
  • orthotic inserts or soles

A common podiatric procedure a podiatrist will use is a scanner or force plate which will allow the podiatrist to know the designs of orthotics. Patients are then told to follow a series of tasks to complete the treatment. The computer will scan the foot a see which areas show weight distribution and pressure points. The podiatrist will read the analysis and then determine which treatment plans are available.
