In fact, peroneal tendons heal rather rapidly when the source of the stress is removed, unlike the plantar fascia which can take weeks to rebound after a serious injury.
Your peroneal tendons are instrumental for providing ankle stability and for allowing your foot to roll out. They also play a role in the formation of the arch.
Initial symptoms will be severe pain and tenderness along the tendons on the outside of your foot, especially during exercise or when you try to roll your foot on the outer edge.
Some treatment options for peroneal tendonitis include:
● Resting, icing, and elevating the foot
● Stretching and flexing the foot and the calf muscles
● Balance improvement exercises
● Ultrasound healing
● Custom-made orthotic inserts
Be sure to see your podiatrist for proper custom-made arch supports and shoe inserts. Store-bought supports may not properly shift the pressure off the side of the foot and will merely exacerbate the problem.
